Estadio Akron
Distinctive volcano-shaped exterior, designed by VFO Architects with a sloped facade that mirrors the surrounding hills. Opened in 2010 in Zapopan on the western edge of Guadalajara, home of Chivas, one of Mexico's two biggest clubs and the only one in Liga MX that fields exclusively Mexican-born players. Capacity is the smallest of the three Mexican host venues but the sightlines from every section are excellent, a consequence of building from a blank canvas with no compromises for an existing road grid. Access is via the MacrobΓΊs to Zapopan plus a short shuttle or rideshare. The neighbourhood around the stadium is largely residential and not a destination on its own; eat and drink in Chapultepec or Centro HistΓ³rico before heading out.
